They consist of a coiled piece of metal, which is used to create extension springs or compression springs. Over time, traditional springs such as these can wear down while losing their ability to store energy. Gas springs feature a gas-filled cylinder that protects them from premature wear and tear. The bottom line is that gas springs are long-lasting.
